TIMELINE

One week

The challenge

A compromised website built on an unsafe foundation

The client’s WordPress website had been built using cracked, or ‘nulled’, software, including an unauthorised copy of Elementor which was the main builder. The website was subsequently compromised, affecting plugins, the active theme and several pages.

CodeThunder’s technical review traced website errors to affected plugins and a corrupted theme environment. Because the damage extended beyond a single component, reinstalling one plugin or restoring one page would not have addressed the wider security and stability risk.

Taking the entire website offline for the full recovery period would also have prevented customers and stakeholders from accessing important information about the client’s clean technology and water management solutions including their live e-commerce section which was active.

The business risks

Extended website downtime and reduced customer access.

Continued exposure through compromised or unauthorised components.

Loss of confidence in the company’s digital presence.

Damaged pages and inconsistent website functionality.

Limited visibility into new security threats or repeated attacks.

Delayed access to information for customers, partners and stakeholders.

Project goal

Our objective

CodeThunder’s objective was to recover the website safely, remove the compromised foundation and restore public access without leaving the entire platform unavailable for a full week.

1. Preserve

Create a complete backup before making major recovery changes.

2. Diagnose

Expose and trace the website errors to the affected themes and plugins.

3. Recover

Remove compromised components and rebuild damaged pages using legitimate software.

4. Maintain access

Release completed pages progressively while keeping visitors informed.

5. Strengthen security

Introduce proactive monitoring, alerts and website protection through Wordfence.

The Solution

The recovery and rebuilding process

CodeThunder began with a full online presence audit to understand what people found when they searched for PrimePak, which platforms were missing or underdeveloped, and where the company could establish stronger authority.

1. Website backup and recovery preparation

CodeThunder created a complete backup of the available website before making major changes. This preserved recoverable data and established a fallback point during the investigation.

2. Technical diagnosis

WordPress debugging was enabled to expose errors and identify where the website was failing. The errors were reviewed systematically and traced to affected plugins and the corrupted theme environment.

3. Removal of compromised components

The infected and unauthorised plugins were removed. Because the active theme had also been corrupted, it was taken out of service rather than being reused.

4. Replacement with legitimate software

The affected software was replaced with official, properly licensed alternatives. This restored access to trusted updates and reduced the risks associated with modified, unsupported code.

5. Theme replacement and page reconstruction

A clean replacement theme was introduced and the pages damaged during the compromise were rebuilt to restore the website’s content, structure and functionality.

6. Progressive website restoration

A temporary renovation message was published while recovery continued. Completed pages were then released in stages, allowing visitors to regain access to important information instead of encountering a completely unavailable website for the entire week.

Business-continuity strategy

The progressive release approach balanced technical recovery with business accessibility. The client could communicate that improvements were underway while essential content returned page by page.

Proactive security with Wordfence

Recovery alone would not have been enough. After the compromised components were removed and the website rebuilt, CodeThunder implemented and configured Wordfence to improve ongoing visibility and protection.

From reactive recovery to proactive monitoring and website protection.

Security capabilities introduced

Wordfence reduced the risk of similar incidents recurring and improved the speed at which suspicious activity could be detected. No security tool can guarantee that a website will never be attacked, so licensed software, timely updates, backups and ongoing maintenance remain essential.

The transformation in one sentence

CodeThunder recovered and rebuilt the client’s compromised WordPress website within one week, progressively restored its damaged pages and implemented Wordfence monitoring and protection to reduce the risk of similar security incidents recurring.

Why the approach mattered

Website recovery is not simply about making a compromised site visible again. Restoring corrupted components without addressing their source can leave the same weaknesses in place.

CodeThunder combined backup, diagnosis, removal, replacement, reconstruction and security monitoring. This restored public access while also moving the client towards a safer and more supportable WordPress environment.

Services Delivered

The project succeeded because it treated online reputation as more than a public-relations problem. PrimePak needed credible digital infrastructure: an authoritative website, optimised content, a discoverable business location and consistent corporate profiles.

Use official, licensed software

Unauthorised themes and plugins can contain modified code, may not receive trusted updates and can expose a business to avoidable security and maintenance risks. WordPress software should be obtained from the developer or another authorised source.
